The Ostrium Manifesto

Revision v1.0.0 FROZEN (2026-10-03) // STATUS: BOOTSTRAP

"How far can intelligence go?"

Civilization advances primarily by reducing the latency between:

UNKNOWN  →  QUESTION  →  HYPOTHESIS  →  EXPERIMENT  →  DISCOVERY  →  ENGINEERING  →  REALITY

Sufficiently compressed, this loop becomes the dominant engine of technological progress. Ostrium exists to investigate whether intelligence can compress that loop, how far it can go, and what physical or informational ceilings limit it.

The Operating System

Ambition without constraint is delusion. The Ostrium Operating System defines three co-equal imperatives:

1. Capability

Ostrium is not a debating society. It is an experimental laboratory that builds working instruments. Every project must leave the institution demonstrably more capable than before.

2. Correctability

Correctability is strictly senior to capability. No capability gain may be pursued at the expense of detectability, containability, or reversibility. If an experiment cannot be cleanly halted and rolled back, it is forbidden from starting.

3. Exit

Use external dependencies aggressively, but maintain tested, zero-rewrite exit paths. Any system that creates entrapment or unilateral lock-in is classified as a vulnerability.

The Precedence Rule

In real-time execution, the Operating System is non-negotiable. Evidence proposes, but cannot silently override or bypass OS constraints in the moment. Altering a constraint requires formal out-of-band constitutional amendment or bounded suspension with independent review.

Institutional Role Registry (Status: Bootstrap)

To prevent unilateral founder bias, Ostrium formalizes five institutional governance roles:

Role Primary Authority Current Status
Capability Class Selector Selects benchmark domains for TC-H experiments to prevent self-selection bias VACANT (BOOTSTRAP)
Adversarial Ledger Reviewer Audits before/after counterfactual baselines before promoting ledger items to State 3 VACANT (BOOTSTRAP)
Termination Mechanism Holder 1 Holds independent out-of-band kill switch for self-improving systems DESIGNATED
Termination Mechanism Holder 2 Holds second independent kill switch for self-improving systems DESIGNATED
Independent Constitutional Auditor Conducts annual audit of measurable failure indicators and suspensions VACANT (BOOTSTRAP)
